Week 1 - 11/03/19
During the first week, I was on a work experience placement, so I was unable to actually start as I wasn't sure on what to do first. I did, however, manage to write up my proposal, ready for when I got back to college the next week.
Week 2 - 18/03/19
For the second week of my FMP, I started to come up with a couple ideas and made a list of stuff I need to research at this point. My first point of research was the main focus itself, twenty one pilots. I managed to find a lot of information on them, from when and where they started, to where they are now.
I then went on to do some research on video editing, documentaries and photography, as these were the three styles I wanted to choose from for my project.
I came to the conclusion of creating a small documentary on the band, making it personal by narrating over and including my personal views and opinions on them, such as how they have helped me, along with many other people.
Week 3 - 25/03/19
I decided to write about my experience at the concert during this week, as I felt like it will be good primary research to use. I also made a mind map of a few ideas I came up with, even just random ideas that came in to my head.
I am hoping to include part of my experience in to my project because it was a big part of my life to attend this concert and being able to see them perform is something I never knew I would be able to experience.
Week 4 - 01/04/19
For one of my ideas, I wanted to involve some fan art the fans make for the band, so I found a couple magazines and took the images out of there and added them to my sketchbook. After some thought, I decided to not use the fan art in my project, as I will just be using other peoples work to complete mine, however, it was nice seeing how talented the fans are.
An idea I came up with was using wood work within my project, but I was told there was not really any relevancy towards the course, so I decided to scrap that idea, it was also one of those that randomly popped in to my head.
Week 5 - 08/04/19
In week five, we were told to produce a critique sheet. I asked the questions; "Is there anything else I can research?", "Do you like the ideas?", "Why do you like/don't like it?", and "How can I improve on my project?".
After looking at what everyone had said, the majority answered the last question, saying that all I need to do now is start experimenting more and show some of my own work. Other than that, the rest of the results came back a positive and everyone seemed to like the idea I am going with.
I can now focus on planning my documentary and moving forward.
Week 6 / 7 - 15/04/19 - 22/04/19
Throughout the Easter break, I looked into what cuts I may end up using, however now at this point, I realise that was superstitious and I shouldn't of done this until I knew what types I needed. However, I felt like I will be using montage and J or L cuts, so I tried these out. For the montage, I just used videos of my guinea pig and put them together, but after watching back, I realised I made some of the clips go on for too long, so it got a bit boring to watch. I then learnt montages are quicker than what I made. For my J and L cuts, I used footage from a concert I attended in November 2018. I thought this would be good for cutting to the next song, except for the J cut, I used a speech the singer did before a song. I felt like it came together okay, considering it was my first attempt, however I could do better by making the audios and picture fade together, making it easier on the eye and ear.
Week 8 - 29/04/19
At the start of week eight, I started going through my footage from the concert and putting it all into a timeline, which I am hoping to include some of in to my FMP. However, I did contact a couple other friends who were also at the concert and let me use a few clips that they captured as I was unable to get footage of the last 3 songs. I will be giving them credit in the final piece.
We also came together as a class and folded a paper in to fours, writing "S", "W", "O" and "T" in each corner, labelling them as "Strengths", "Weaknesses", "Opportunities", and "Threats". We wrote down anything relevant to our project at this point under the titles. This helped show the point I am at with my project and how I can push myself to make sure it turns out the way I hope.
I decided to write it up into word so it's clearer to read.
I may create a couple more throughout the rest of the FMP so I can reflect further in to what I need to work on and be weary of.
Week 10 - 06/05/19
This week I made a script for a narrative and planned out the videos I will be needing. It took a while to find the majority, luckily a couple early videos were easily found through either the band's YouTube or Tyler's dad's YouTube. At one point I have been close to not bothering to carry on finding certain videos, however they manage to appear at the right time.
I don't have all of the videos I need, as I wasn't sure what to put in those spaces, but when everything else has come together, I will find what fits best.
I am hoping to do a backwards time-lapse of the bands success to them when they were smaller at the start of the documentary when I'm introducing/explaining what it is about.
Over the weekend, I managed to start on the downloading of the videos, however my internet at home isn't that good, so it takes a long time to download them, and because there is a lot, I will be needing to spend a lot more time than I had hoped on getting them downloaded.
I currently have a few to start off my video, however, I now need to work on getting the narrative recorded so I know where to place the videos alongside the audio.
I may end up adjusting the script throughout, as I did narrow it down when it comes to explaining the awards as there were so many, but I'm going to see how it goes for the first run and if I need to make any changes, I will be able to do so afterwards, even if I have to re-record certain parts.
I will probably record it section by section instead of all in one, that way if I make a mistake, I won't have to worry about redoing the whole thing, just that segment.
Week 11 - 13/05/19
I finally was able to get all of the videos downloaded, even though I did run in to a couple issues of some not downloading for the first few tries, but I managed to overcome this by restarting my browser.
I recorded my narrative at the start of the week. I was able to use the photo studio to do this. I was nervous at first as I was worried people would hear me, but I got on with it. I recorded it in one long session, pausing when I needed to, or even when people were making noise outside of the room. I did get it done and was happy with the outcome. It sounds crisp and clear.
I then started with the editing. As I didn't have all of the clips at this point, so I started editing the audio down, cutting out any mistakes and pauses. However, I forgot to upload the sound to my OneDrive, so I was unable to access it until I went in to the mac suite again.
We use a different one on a Thursday, but I was able to get on the other mac to get the audio on to a memory stick.
I realised the audio was probably a bit too long, and it would be better if it was a 5-10 minute documentary instead of 25+ minutes, I rambled on a lot in the audio, but after cutting a lot of the useless stuff out, I made it down to 3 minutes half way through the topics I spoke about.
I am extremely close to getting it done. It all looks good so far.
Week 12 - 20/05/19
I finished my video, finally. After recording the audio, it was around 34 minutes, but after thinking it would be a bit too long, I somehow made it to be around 6 minutes. I really enjoyed creating it, as it is on a topic I am passionate about.
After I finished the video, I wrote a bit about it in my sketchbook, along with typing up my evaluation for the end of it.
I got it all handed in on perfect timing.
