I managed to finish my evaluation within the time range I was hoping to stick to.
However, I did have some issues timing wise throughout the project. There were times I was behind by a couple days, such as in the research and starting the final product, but I got myself back on track and got everything how I wanted it to be. The timing issues were from me struggling to get motivation and me procrastinating, but I pushed myself to get in the right mind frame to get it all done as I knew I would be happy with the final outcome.
Even through the issues I faced, I personally think I produced the best work I have done all year. This is because I did it on a topic I knew I would enjoy learning more about and creating, it is also something that I am highly passionate about.
I did come up with quite a few ideas, which included photography and video. I decided to choose going with video because I didn’t really know what I would do to incorporate photography in the topic, but with a video, I knew straight away I would be able to create something like a documentary.
As well as my time issues, I also had a couple others, such as when it came to downloading the videos. I don’t really have the best internet at home, so it would take ages to download something, and because I had 50 videos to get, I was worried how long it would take. Luckily, I was able to get them all done in time, so that worry was over with. Another issue was I forgot to put my audio on to my OneDrive, so I was unable to do work over a weekend that I was hoping to do so, I also managed to get over this hurdle though after I finally got it on a memory stick, that way I don’t need to worry about putting it on my OneDrive.
I was 1 week behind due to being on work experience, however I was able to write up my proposal and start getting a couple ideas down for what I wanted to focus on and do.
There were moments throughout the project where I wanted to scrap everything because I didn’t feel like it was going the way I would have liked, but I carried on and hoped everything would fall back in to place, which it did.
For my project being a documentary, I made it more personal by doing a narrative on top. I wanted to talk about the start of the band, to now, and everything in-between.
I used the photography studio to record it, which only took under an hour.
When it came to actually starting the editing, I decided to go along with cutting the audio and putting the clips in at the same time, which I found easier. I don’t know why I preferred this way, I think it is because I knew the clips were in place along with the audio being cut perfectly.
The original length of the audio was around 34 minutes. I realised this would have been a bit too long, so as I went on, I cut out any parts I thought weren’t really necessary, there were also quite a few parts where I stumbled over my words and had pauses, which took up a bit of the time. I managed to cut it down to a 6-minute audio, which I am pretty impressed with, as I didn’t expect to be able to make it that short.
Now that I cut the audio down massively, it meant I also had loads of videos I no longer needed. I don’t remember the exact number of videos I did use in the project, but I do know I didn’t need at least around 10.
I found downloadable instrumentals from the band that I used in the background of the video, which I think were a good addition. There were some audio clips I wanted from the videos, so I just muted the volume on the music, or lowered it, so the audio could be heard. As I used 2 tracks, I had to make them fade in to each other nicely, which I tried to do but probably could have made it a tiny bit smoother.
In conclusion, I am extremely happy with what I produced, especially because I tend to doubt myself, but this is something I am proud of. There are some parts I could of improved, such as maybe adding more tone to my voice, and the transition between songs. My skills in Premiere Pro increased a bit from me having to edit the clips together, along with the audio.
