Photography is the creation of images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, this can be done electronically by an image sensor, or chemically by a light-sensitive material, for example, photographic film. As well as being used for direct art, hobbies or recreational purposes, photography can also be used in fields of science, manufacturing, and business.
A lens tends to be used to focus the light being reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the surface that is light-sensitive on the inside of a camera through a timed exposure. An electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file, is produced by an electronic image sensor.
Types of Photography
Landscape, Seascape and Cityscape
All three of these focus on landforms, being both natural and man-made. All of them have the rule of thirds in common, this is used for capturing images that have horizontal lines.
Still Life
Still Life photography is when an image of an object, that has been arranged by the photographer or how they have been found, is captured. A successful composition is needed to achieve the best image, leading it to be a bit hard for the photographer to arrange the objects to gain the effect.
Portrait
Portrait photography are usually headshots but can also contain other features. Photographers use portraits as they are more elaborate than a snapshot as the person having the portrait taken can show something about themselves, such as showing emotions.
Nature and Wildlife
Nature and Wildlife photographer are images of plants and animals; however, landscapes can be incorporated too.
Architectural
Architectural photographer refers to images of buildings and architectural features. The depth of field within the image tends to be shorter and the elements in the background aren’t emphasized.
Black & White
Within Black & White photography, colour can’t be used to attract the eye to a certain part of the image. This means the photographer needs to take in the shapes, tones and textures within the frame to make them the points of interest.
Sports/Action
The camera is needed to be on a continuous shooting mode while being used for this sort of shot. If the photographer wants to add dimension or depth, they can use a different angle or tilt the camera. Shooting with a fast shutter freezes the motion of the subject, using a slower shutter speed makes the subject blurred.
